THE PUPPY PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
This is the critical beginning for all of the following programs we provide. This can be done by you, with daily commitment, or you can leave this up to us. The time that you spend teaching your retriever the “fundamentals” during the first few weeks/months of their lives will greatly impact their abilities, drive and intelligence. It is critical to ensure that your retriever is worked daily between 16 and 24 weeks. This is the time when they are developing mental imprints to guide their abilities later in life. Your pup’s desire is developing at this point and we strive to maximize that instinct to take them to their highest level and potential.
These absolutely critical lessons create a concrete base to build all future levels upon. Our preschool program properly introduces your puppy to crating, birds, water, and other dogs. Sixteen (16) week- old pups are accepted for this program. Training objectives can usually be reached in 1 month, and will pay off throughout their lives. None of the above described objectives are a complicated science. The issue arises if they are not done properly, consistently and with care. Improperly trained “fundamentals” can result in lifelong problems such as fear of water, poor socialization, fear of gunfire, etc.
Preschool - $400/month
THE JUNIOR RETRIEVER PROGRAM
*COMPLETION OF OUR PUPPY PRESCHOOL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
A dog that completes our junior retriever program will be a productive partner in the field. Your pup’s obedience will be evident with their full cooperation/understanding of the commands Here, Sit, Down, Kennel, Quiet, and Leave It. Your dog will be capable of delivering game to your hand without delay. This dog should be capable of marking and retrieving single birds down for the hunter. Your dog will be properly introduced to the electronic collar during obedience training and will accordingly obey commands quickly, but at the same time retain a good working attitude. This level of training usually takes 3-4 months to complete, depending on the dogs natural ability. Please remember that a pup with no training prior to this will take longer.
Junior Program - $600/month plus the cost of birds
THE SENIOR RETRIEVER PROGRAM
A dog is eligible for our senior retriever training program upon completion of our junior Retriever Program. A senior-level dog should be capable of completing double retrieves on land and water and should be fully steady. At this time handling and lining drills are introduced, as well as more advanced marking concepts. Dogs that complete this program will be able to run simple cold blinds and compete in mid level AKC hunt tests. This level of training usually takes 4-6 months to complete.
Senior Program - $600/month plus the cost of birds
THE MASTER RETRIEVER PROGRAM
A dog eligible for this program must complete our senior program. This dog will have the added ability to complete complicated triple marks, blinds with hazards and poison birds, honoring, and advanced water concepts. Dogs that complete this program are usually 2-3 years of age and would compete in master level AKC events. Not all dogs have the natural skills to complete this level of training. Total training time required, counting in all prior programs, to achieve this level of performance is usually 12-18 months.
Master Program - $600/month plus the cost of birds
UPLAND PROGRAM
A dog eligible for this program must complete our junior program first. This program can be added to the senior and master programs. The water concepts in the junior program can be bypassed if “upland only” is your goal. Time in training will be reduced. This dog should be capable of quartering in front of the gunner within 20 yards using hand and whistle commands, steady to eyed birds on the ground and proficiently trailing and flushing upland game. This level of training usually takes 1-2 months to complete.
Upland Program - $600/month plus the cost of birds
*NOTE – All dogs ran in hunt tests are subject to travel and handling fees.
